Universal Door Damper/Barrier Insulation Cover Kit
ASU-DDBIK-2

Product Description:
The Door Damper/Barrier Insulation Cover material in this kit fits all car and truck doors, and serves two purposes:

1) The Dynamat Damper strips stop door panel vibration.

2) The aluminum barrier material stops the weeping of moisture between the structure of the door frame and the
interior upholstery panel. This material prevents wind, road noise and radiant heat from entering the passenger
cabin by creating an insulation barrier.

Kit Contents: Tools Needed for Installation:
• 6-Strips of Dynamat Extreme damper material
2” X 24” (Three strips for each door)
• 2-Sheets Aluminum Barrier Insulation, 30”x 40”
• 1-Roll Double Sided Adhesive Foam Tape
• Illustrated Instruction Sheet
• Sharp box knife or scissors
• Straight edge ruler
• Masking tape or duct tape
• Tape measure
• Felt tip pen

Prerequisites:
Installation of any AcoustiShield product begins with preparation of the interior metal surfaces. All panels must be:
•Thoroughly cleaned, washed and painted (recommended). Over time, adhesive material will not stick to dusty, dirty, grimy body panel surfaces.
•Bone dry.
•Temperature of the metal surfaces should be above 70 degrees.

Door Damper Installation Procedures:
Start the installation process by analyzing the vehicleʼs door skin. Tap it with your knuckle to see how much noise it makes.

Note:
the differences between areas that are flat in the middle of the door panel and those areas that are curved or structurally reinforced around the edges of the door. You will find that the areas which have a compound curve rolled into the steel produce less noise then areas that are flat. It is these flat areas that need to be “dampened” with the Door Skin Damper Strips. As illustrated, three adhesive strips should be applied evenly spaced across the door panel skin. You can apply laying out guide lines to assist in evenly distributing the Damper Strips across the door panel. Strips can be placed horizontally, or vertically on the door skin.

Note:
If the door panel has a steel support structure, making it difficult to install the strips, cut the strips into smaller pads and place them randomly as best you can. Using the layout plan, peel back the protective film on one end of a Damper Strip and starting two inches from the edge of the door, “tack” the end of the Damper Strip with finger pressure as you pull back the protective film. Repeat the process with the other Damper Strips or pads following the layout plan until all of the strips are in place. At this point, you can still lift the damper material and move it as desired. “Pressure roll” the Damper Strips to the metal skin of the door so that all air gaps are removed ensuring hat the adhesive backing firmly grips the metal skin. The best tool for this part of the job is a wallpaper seam roller because it easily rolls in narrow paths and you can apply hard pressure with your arm muscles. Work the seam roller along the Damper Strip from the center toward each end.

Door Barrier Cover Installation Procedures:
Start the installation process by analyzing the
vehicle’s door frame structure and determine where you want to apply the barrier material. Be sure that the barrier material and seam tape will fit behind the upholstery panel (and not be visible) at the completion of the installation process.

Step 1 -- Position your finished upholstery panel on the door frame and mark the outside edge on both sides and bottom with a lead pencil or by outling the edge with masking tape. This will give you the outside boundry of the your finished upholster panel. The barrier cover needs to fit inside your guidelines.
Step 2 -- Position one sheet of the barrier material on the door panel frame structure starting at the top. Temporarily hold the sheet in place with several strips of masking tape or duct tape. Ideally, the area to be covered will have one “square corner” and you can lay the material out starting at this point.
Step 3 -- Locate the window riser and door lever shaft mechanism and cut an “X” in the material with a sharp box knife so that the material lays flat against the door. Also at this time, locate and mark any other holes that you may need later when you do the final installation of the door upholstery panel.
Step 4 -- Pre-trim the excess barrier material so that you have a workable size. Pull the material tight against the door. Fold the barrier material toward the middle of the door to 1/4 inch inside one of yoiur side lines. Press the fold tight to get a sharp crease. Open up the fold and trim along the crease with a pair of scissors. Add a couple more pieces of masking tape to the newly trimmed side to temporarily hold the sheet in place. Repeat the process for the other side and bottom of the door.

Position your upholestry panel over the barrier sheet to be sure that it will not be visible. Trim as needed. Once you are satisfied with the fit, you are ready to apply the double sided foam tape. Trimming Round Corners: To assist yoiu in trimming around a curve or radiced corner, mark and cut sever “darts” from the edge of the material to a point 1/4” behind yoiur trim line. Fold the material over, and crease and trim with scissors.
Time Tip:
The other door of the car is most likely iden tical to the door for which you made a pattern. Flip the pattern over and make a reverse copy for the second door.
Step 5 -- Place the double-sided foam tape around the perimeter of the door sructure just inside your pencil guidelines. Leave the protective paper on the top surface until you are ready to adhere the barrier sheet to the door. You can also apply the foam tape around any air vent or speaker openings. A few strips of foam tape in the middle section of the door frame will keep the surface smooth and tight against the door frame.
Step 6 --You are now ready to apply the barrier shield. Pull the protective paper off all surfaces of the foam tape. Go back to your start position and “lightly” tack the barrier material into positon, keeping the material away from other parts of the door with foam tape. Lay it into position as though you are applying shelf paper. When all edges are lined up with your guide marks, apply hand pressure to ensure that the foam tape adheres to the barrier sheet and to the door frame. You are now ready to install your upholstery panel.
